Perpetuating Celebrating Preserving Nurturing Cultivating Japanese performing arts in Hawaiʻi since 1947.

Hanayagi Dancing Academy Hawaiʻi Foundation was founded in 1947 by Hanayagi Mitsuaki I (Viola Hosokawa) under the guiding principle of preserving and perpetuating Japanese performing arts in Hawaiʻi. Today, the academy offers lessons in classical Japanese dance by its affiliation with the Tokyo branch of the Hanayagi-ryū School of Classical Japanese Dance, and nagauta shamisen by its affiliation with the Samon Kai of the Kineya School of Nagauta Shamisen in Tokyo.

HDAHF students and teachers often perform at various cultural events around the island of Oʻahu, hold a yearly recital open to the public, and in 2025 the Foundation will hold its 25th Classical Japanese Dance Grand Recital.
